Parkdean’s Trecco Bay Holiday Park Picks up a National Tourism for Wales Award

Colleagues at Parkdean’s Trecco Bay Holiday Park, in Porthcawl, are celebrating this week after winning the ‘Most Successful Tourism Team’ award at the National Tourism Awards for Wales 2013.

37 teams of 3 amateurs and 1 professional took park in the competition, with participants travelling from all over the UK. Following the golf, a presentation dinner, auction and grand raffle were held at the Fairfield House Hotel.

Thanks to our teams, our sponsors and our generous donators of raffle and auction prizes, we are delighted to announce that we raised £25,500 for the Hospice.

This brings our cumulative total to £325,000 over the last 27 years.

Beating stiff competition from three other finalists, the Trecco Bay business was picked out by the judges for its commitment to people, training and excellence in service. Through its entry, the team also had to prove its ability to work together and to offer visitors a truly memorable experience as well as that all important warm, welsh welcome.

The accolade was presented to the team at Visit Wales’ prestigious annual award ceremony in Llandudno this month (21st November). Hosted by Radio 1 presenter Aled Haydn Jones, the event recognised the very best that Wales has to offer in the travel industry.

Karl Schmidtke, Regional Director for Parkdean, said:

“We’re delighted to have received the Most Successful Tourism Team award, especially as it’s voted for by mystery shoppers who experience our product and service first hand.”

“What’s really special about this award is that it recognises excellence in service, hospitality, quality and customer care –elements we pride ourselves on. I’d like to thank the whole team at Trecco Bay, it’s great that everyone’s efforts over the last couple of years have been acknowledged and long may their success continue.”

The Most Successful Tourism Team award is the latest in a line of achievements for Trecco Bay holiday park this year. Not only has the park received a gold award in the David Bellamy Awards scheme for its environmental efforts, but it also maintained its four star rating from Visit Wales too. At a wider business level, Parkdean also received the Best UK Holiday Park Operator at the British Travel Awards 2013, making this year one of the businesses’ most celebrated to date.

A Boom in Bellamy Awards for Parkdean

Holidaymakers with a passion for the British countryside will be pleased to hear that Parkdean has improved its environmental credentials even further, having been awarded 24 David Bellamy Awards for 2013/14.

The David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme is one of the longest running green tourism awards in the UK and recognises holiday parks that are working to protect and enhance Britain’s environment. Those that take part in the scheme are assessed by local wildlife experts on a range of criteria including their ability to reduce their use of energy, manage their land as a haven for wildlife, support their local communities and reduce, reuse and recycle their waste.

Having continued to invest in dedicated conservation areas and environmental practices across all 24 its UK parks, Parkdean now boasts 20 Gold and four Silver awards as a company, with five parks celebrating an upgrade in status from Silver to Gold during the past year.

John Waterworth, Chief Executive of Parkdean, said:

“We’re delighted to not only have retained all 24 of our awards but to have improved a further five of our parks to Gold status this year too. Every one of our 24 parks is situated in unique and beautiful surroundings, from the woodlands of Dorset to the sand dunes of Scotland, and it’s vital that we play our part in protecting these habitats so that they can be enjoyed by our customers for years to come.”

In addition to its David Bellamy Awards, Parkdean is also celebrating an improvement in its Tourist Board gradings for 2013, with 23 of its parks now boasting a 4 star rating and one further park having been awarded a 3 star rating.

Holidaymakers set to be ‘made up’ by Parkdean’s new service

Parkdean is helping holidaymakers to make the most of their British breaks by introducing a brand new service that sees beds made up on arrival across all accommodation booked direct with the operator.

Putting an end to the traditional bed-making ritual, still commonplace in the majority of holiday parks across the UK, Parkdean’s service is free of charge and hopes to add to the home-from-home feeling it strives to provide as well as improving the whole holiday experience. Whether you want to relax after your journey or get stuck into the holiday fun straightaway, Parkdean is giving its customers one less thing to worry about.

This latest offering by the award-winning holiday park operator joins other creature comforts such as DVD and CD players, washer/dryers, dishwashers, central heating and I pod docking stations. Baby equipment is also on offer from as little as £10 per week.

The launch of Parkdean’s bed-making service follows a significant £12million investment programme from the company which has seen all 24 of its holiday parks upgraded over the past three years. From the creation of outdoor adventure playgrounds to the introduction of luxurious caravans, the company has further improved its already award-winning parks.

Parkdean’s Chief Executive, John Waterworth, said:

“For those that have enjoyed a holiday park stay, making up your beds on arrival is just part and parcel of the unpacking and settling in process. However, here at Parkdean, we know how precious your time on holiday is and we wanted to give all of our visitors the opportunity to start their holiday as soon as they arrive on the park.

“We also know how important the little details can be when you’re away from home, whether that’s having a dryer at hand for your swimming costumes and towels, having access to free Wi-Fi in the main facilities of our parks or being able to sit back and enjoy a movie as a family. By offering a bed-making service as standard, we’re not only giving customers the chance to just drop off their bags and hit the beach, pool or entertainment facilities but we’re ensuring that the feeling of relaxation is there from the very beginning of their stay.

“When you choose a holiday or short break with Parkdean, you can be assured you will be staying in top quality accommodation. Not only are we committed to service but we’ve also added new holiday homes across our parks in 2013 to give you even more choice when booking your holiday as well as a host of new facilities for you to enjoy too.”

Blue Flags and Seaside Awards: Enjoy the Best of British Beaches with Parkdean

Parkdean is today celebrating that fact that not one, but three of its beaches – Croyde Bay, Challaborough Bay and Trecco Bay – have received prestigious awards for quality.

Not only has Trecco Bay, in Porthcawl, been awarded the internationally recognized Blue Flag Award for the tenth year running but Croyde Bay and Challaborough Bay, in Devon, have also received the inaugural Seaside Award 2013. As a result, visitors to its Ruda, Challaborough Bay and Trecco Bay holiday parks will have the added peace of mind that they are relaxing on some of the very best beaches in the UK.

The new Seaside Award, run by Keep Britain Tidy, replaces the Quality Coast Award and recognises beaches in England that achieve the highest standards of beach management and, in the case of bathing beaches, meet guideline water quality. Both Croyde Bay and Challaborough Bay have previously been rewarded for quality, each holding the prestigious Blue Flag Award in recent years.

In addition to the award-winning beaches owned by Parkdean, holidaymakers staying at Parkdean’s Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Hampshire holiday parks can also enjoy easy access to a further 11 public beaches that have received a Blue Flag and 10 that have received a Seaside Award this year, including gorgeous Polzeath, Meadfoot and Hayling Island Beachlands. Visitors to Sandford in Poole are particularly lucky, being able to choose from four stunning stretches of coastline with Blue Flags including Sandbanks Peninsular.

Parkdean’s Chief Executive, John Waterworth, said:

“We are absolutely thrilled to see that Trecco Bay has been awarded a Blue Flag for the tenth year running and that both Croyde Bay and Challaborough Bay have been among the first to receive the prestigious new Seaside Award accolade. We not only strive to give our holidaymakers top quality accommodation but also access to the best possible facilities, so we are very proud that our parks are either on, or near to, some of the best beaches in the world.”
